Overview

Nacido en la nuca de un maquinista, Matías aprende desde sus primeros pasos que un piojo siempre debe andar con los ojos bien abiertos. Enseguida tiene que hacer frente a las inundaciones jabonosas y las friegas con que la mano del gigante humano quiere expulsarlo, o buscar refugio ante un peine o el huracán de un secador. Un día su hermana le anima a buscar los manantiales próximos a esa montaña vertical que es la oreja, pero, jóvenes incautos, caerán prisioneros del rey de la caspa, y se verán condenados a trabajos forzados. De peripecia en peripecia, la vida de Matías es a su vez un inspirado homenaje a los clásicos de la picaresca y un tronchante relato de iniciación desde su originalísimo y diminuto punto de vista: «La gente cree que los piojos sólo sabemos picar y tumbarnos a la bartola entre una y otra picadura, pero no es verdad. ¡Como si no tuviéramos nuestros propios sentimientos!».
